Prior to entering provincial politics, the Honourable Jeff Leal worked extensively with both county and local governments as a Peterborough city councillor for two decades.
In 2003, he was first elected to the Ontario Legislature as the MPP for Peterborough and in 2014 appointed as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Jeff has since fostered growth and innovation in Ontario’s agri-food industry, helping boost the economy and supporting the sector in meeting the Agri-Food Growth Challenge of creating 120,000 new jobs by 2020.
Jeff is also helping to build Ontario up by growing Ontario’s agri-food sector by expanding international agri-trade and investment in emerging global markets such as China and India.
A life-long Peterborough resident, Jeff is dedicated to helping shape a strong future for Ontario’s rural communities, a place where his wife Karan along with their two children Braden and Shanae are proud to call home.
In addition to his role as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Jeff was also recently appointed as the Minister Responsible for Small Business.
Similar to the agri-food sector, small businesses can be found in every corner of Ontario and are vital to building a prosperous Ontario.
Jeff remains committed to championing both portfolios each and every day at the cabinet table.
